On July 10, the National Development and Reform Commission of China, together with the Guangdong Provincial People's Government and the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government, launched the 2023 National Energy Conservation Publicity Week in Guangzhou, and determined that July 10 to 16 will be the National energy Conservation Publicity Week, with the theme of "Energy conservation and carbon reduction, you and I walk together". July 12 is the National Low-carbon Day, with the theme of "Actively responding to climate change and promoting green and low-carbon development".
In response to the call of the state, themed activities related to energy conservation and emission reduction were also carried out throughout the country during the same period. As a hot industry that has been mentioned in recent years, the plastic packaging industry is also constantly exploring, looking forward to contributing to energy conservation and emission reduction.
Green packaging is one of the important ways to improve the ecological environment, the development of low-carbon environmental protection packaging is undoubtedly a huge trend in the future, to meet the current requirements for ecological environmental protection, improve the level of environmental governance, to improve the ecological environment plays a very important role in promoting social and economic development.
For low-carbon environmental protection packaging, the development of new green packaging materials will inevitably contribute, but at the same time packaging design should also start from the practicability, environmental protection packaging materials in packaging design application will become one of the mainstream in the future. Through the improvement of the structural design, lightweight design, increase the recycling of materials, to achieve the effect of multi-purpose, so as to reduce the use of natural resources, from the production and processing, consumption and use, abandonment and other aspects of the state can be comprehensively reduced damage.
Today we take stock of the application cases of green and low-carbon packaging materials at home and abroad.
New Zealand Land
At the 5th CIIE, NUSland launched China's first imported low-carbon plant-based packaging A2 pure milk.
This new product is the first imported carbon neutral milk in the world, reducing carbon at the source end of pasture milk by 28%, reducing carbon at the energy end of the factory by 25%, and using plant-based packaging, reducing carbon footprint by about 14%, low-carbon ecology and traceability. At the same time, it integrates the spirit of "pasture cow - pasture - craftsman" of NUSland, the first three-pack form of pasture story, transmits the awe of nature through products, and realizes the low-carbon protection of high-quality protein milk "from the inside out".
Sf Express
The logistics recycling box launched by SF Express after the upgrade uses PP honeycomb sheet, a single material that is easier to recycle, and uses a self-locking bottom folding structure and a magic paste mode for the whole box, eliminating the use of tape paper, zippers and other consumable materials. Through the study of a variety of express delivery scenarios and user scenarios, the refined modification innovation of package material adaptation, combined with the operation procedures to limit excessive packaging, reduced the use of base paper by about 34,000 tons and reduced the use of plastic by about 6,200 tons. In 2021, a total of 279,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced through green packaging.
Bob's fast food
An edible burger wrapper from Bob's fast food restaurant in the United States that can be eaten or used as a napkin.
KFC developed the Scoff-ee cup, which allows people to eat the cup after drinking coffee! The cups are actually sugar-coated cookies with a layer of edible candy wrappers and heat-resistant white chocolate inside.
Jingdong
Jd Logistics released the 2021 Environmental, Social and Governance Report on May 30 last year. In August 2021, JD Logistics carried out a circular packaging pilot project in Haikou City, Hainan province, putting in more than 10,000 circular packaging boxes, and piloting circular express bags for the first time to explore the gradual reduction of the use of disposable PE plastic bags. According to Beijing Business Daily, Jingdong Logistics is expected to complete the sharing model pilot of circular packaging by the end of 2023, and the probability of users seeing green flow boxes will be greatly increased in Beijing and other core cities in 2023.
Danone China Beverage
On the eve of World Environment Day last year, Danone China Beverages announced its carbon reduction innovation, and its brand Pulsing announced that it would invest in a new packaging material production technology in partnership with LanzaTech, an innovative company that has long focused on carbon capture and conversion. According to reports, LanzaTech's carbon capture technology can directly convert carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in carbon-rich gas sources into key raw materials required for the production of PET bottles through microorganisms, thereby reducing the use of oil and the impact of carbon emissions on the environment. The packaging produced with this PET is called "smart carbon" packaging, which is expected to explore a viable solution for environmentally friendly packaging in the beverage industry.
At the press conference, Pulsation showed the world's first "smart carbon" concept bottle. The embossed inscription on the bottle reads "Made From CO2", highlighting the source of the PET bottle's raw material "smart carbon".
Satine
Satine launches new printing and ink-free packaging. In addition to the ink printed on the original bottle on the product packaging * (* means that in addition to the necessary content on the Tetra Pak factory packaging materials, the brand does not use additional ink printing content), product name and production date and other information is printed by laser technology, so it can directly reduce the use of materials and energy.
In December 2021, Yili Milk Gold Standard announced the first 0 aluminum foil low-carbon paper based composite packaging in China. This new generation of aseptic paper-based composite packaging without aluminum foil uses a new barrier layer instead of aluminum foil, which can greatly reduce the carbon footprint and help achieve the goal of carbon neutrality.
