The Conference On Nutritional Value And Scientific And Technological Achievements Of Nuts Was Held

Sep 15, 2023

On September 12, the "Nut Nutrition Value and Scientific and Technological Achievements Conference" organized by the Special Medical Food and Bioactive Peptide Industry Committee of China Productivity Promotion Center Association and the Food industry Productivity Promotion Center was held in Beijing. At the meeting, the relevant institutions released the "2020-2022 China Nut Market Consumption Data Report" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report") and other two scientific and technological research results related to nut nutrition.

In recent years, with the increasing consumption of nuts in the market, consumers' demand for nut consumption has become prominent in terms of quality, nutrition and high-end. Healthy consumption awareness and rapidly spreading consumption habits are the driving forces for the growth of the nut market. The upgrading and transformation trend of nut products is obvious, and the nut gift market contains a large incremental space in the future.

In 2021, the income of nut roasting enterprises above designated size reached 215.5 billion yuan. Although the market has shrunk due to the epidemic in 2022, the overall upward trend of the nut industry is still obvious.

The "report" pointed out that the nut industry has experienced a transformation from simple products such as stir-fried peanuts and stir-fried sunflower seeds in street stir-fried goods stores to large-scale production of nut packaging products, and is now moving towards a new stage of development with the "Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents" as guidance and accurate grasp of healthy nutrition consumption needs.

In the product performance for hybrid, high-end and other characteristics, emphasizing "no addition" and "reasonable collocation"; In the application scenario, it extends from parties and festivals to gyms, cafes and other options; In the form of packaging, it has gradually evolved from a single large package of products to portable small packages and various nuts accompanied by hand gifts.

The report pointed out that in the past three years, due to the impact of the epidemic, personnel flow was limited, and the sales revenue growth of the head enterprises slowed down, especially the overall revenue of the industry shrank in 2022. In the future, most of the traditional products of nut enterprises will enter the Red Sea of competition, and enterprises urgently need to develop new products to achieve long-term stable sales growth.

Related studies have found that the high-end nut gift market is the blue ocean of the future nut market, especially high-end nut gift products for business gifts, even in 2022, when the nut industry is shrinking, it has achieved contrary growth. China is a state of etiquette, the gift market demand is huge, according to relevant industry data, China's business gifts (including employee welfare gifts) total market is more than 190 billion yuan per year. At present, the penetration rate of high-end nut products in the field of business gifts is not high, daily tobacco and alcohol, health products, 3C digital, makeup, fashion, cultural and creative gift customers have aesthetic fatigue, and high-end nut gift products are healthy and trendy, and their market opportunities are obvious.

Dr. Cui Yajuan, Assistant general manager and Director of the Nutrition Analysis Room of Beijing Nutrition Source Institute, introduced the relevant results of the research project. The project conducted a comprehensive nutritional analysis of 6 typical nuts and their nut oil, and conducted a comprehensive nutritional evaluation using the diversity, matching, balance and nutritional value deviation index. It provides data support for scientific consumption recommendations on nuts and nut oils.

Despite the high nutritional value of nuts and nut oil, there are few relevant public research data, especially the lack of total nutritional analysis and nutritional evaluation based on different dimensions. This study fills the gap in this field, has a good advancement and innovation, and the results are at the leading level in China. At the same time, it provides new ideas and new directions for the development of related industries.

Professor Xie Yuanhong of Beijing University of Agriculture shared and interpreted the research results of "Development and Application of Key Technologies of Antioxidant in high-value Nuts". He pointed out that although the nutritional value of nuts is widely recognized, their oxidative stability has been a bottleneck restricting their wide application. Therefore, it is particularly critical to develop technologies that can effectively enhance the antioxidant capacity of nuts.

He also introduced the innovative results achieved by the team in the key technology of antioxidant in high-value nuts, and looked forward to the future research direction. He said that the development and application of key antioxidant technologies for high-value nuts has broad market prospects and social significance, and will escort people's health.

Lu Wei, strategic consultant of Beijing Hualing Sifang Investment Consulting Co., LTD., shared the interpretation of the "2020-2022 China Nut Market Consumption Data Report".
